Banking & Project Finance

We have acted for most of the main Qatari based banks on local lending, debt restructurings and insolvencies and for many of the multinational banks involved in financing large and medium scale projects in Qatar.

Our scope of work routinely involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of transaction documents, including finance agreements and security agreements. We have acted as joint local counsel in some assignments that we have undertaken.

Our lawyers have gained considerable experience in the energy sector and have worked on many aspects of the major energy projects in Qatar. The energy projects involve a multi-faceted practice area requiring careful review and analysis of the host country’s legal framework which we are well equipped to undertake.

We regularly act for the government entities representing the State of Qatar in the energy projects such as Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Water & Electricity Company. We have advised clients involved in large scale energy projects of the need for specific legislation when circumstances require additional laws and regulations.

As a result of our strong reputation in the energy projects area, we have been instructed by the government of the State of Qatar to advise on contractual obligations assumed by the State of Qatar in relation to the energy projects it has entered into and to draft various legislative instruments including decrees and decisions related to foreign ownership of property in Qatar and formation of companies by government agencies.

ALB has advised on many property finance matters concerning the large scale construction projects underway in Qatar which have boomed over recent years. We have carried out work relating to the hotel and leisure industry and the construction of office towers.

We have considerable experience in Islamic finance. We have advised clients that are keen to carry out business in a Sharia compliant manner on a number of issues including structuring of funds and financings.
